Deadlock mods
Hero skins, sounds and UI mods: where to find them, how to install them, why they disappear after an update, and whether there’s a ban risk.
Know this first
Valve hasn’t published a mod policy for Deadlock. In practice, skin, sound and UI mods haven’t caused problems; however, mods that give an advantage over opponents (boosting visibility, showing information or changing gameplay) count as cheating and can get your account banned. Mods are made by the community; HiddenKing.gg and Valve have nothing to do with these files. The decision to use mods, and the risk, is yours.
Where to find mods
Most Deadlock mods are shared on GameBanana.
GameBanana Deadlock
The main hub for skin, sound, UI and map mods, guides and tools.
Open on GameBananaWith a mod manager (easiest)
Free community-made apps that search for mods, download them, toggle them on and off, and apply the required setting before the game launches. They have no affiliation with Valve.
Deadlock Mod Manager
A mod store with hero filtering and one-click install and uninstall. Windows and Linux.

Searches GameBanana and installs for you; drag and drop to set load order, and it shows conflicting mods.

Manual install
Five steps. For when you don’t want to install an app or a manager doesn’t work.
- 1
Open the game folder
In Steam, right-click Deadlock › Manage › Browse local files. In the folder that opens, go into
game\citadel. - 2
Create the
addonsfolderIf there is no folder named
addonsinsidegame\citadel, create it. All mods go here. - 3
Name the mod and drop it in
Put the mod’s
.vpkfile insideaddonsand rename itpak01_dir.vpk. The second mod becomespak02_dir.vpk, the thirdpak03_dir.vpk(01–99). If two mods change the same thing, the lower number wins. - 4
Add a line to
gameinfo.giOpen
game\citadel\gameinfo.giin a text editor like Notepad. Find theSearchPathssection and add the lineGame citadel/addonsright below the curly brace, at the very top. Save. - 5
Launch the game
Launch Deadlock. Mods show up in the main menu or in a match. If they don’t, check the file name and the
gameinfo.giline.
game\citadel\gameinfo.gi: the line to add is in greenSearchPaths
{
Game citadel/addons
// (the game’s own lines stay exactly as they are) Game_UILanguage citadel_*LANGUAGE* Game_LowViolence citadel_lv Game citadel … }
If mods don’t work
Disappeared after an update
Game updates and Steam’s Verify integrity of game files reset the gameinfo.gi file. Add the Game citadel/addons line again or run the mod manager once.
Game won’t launch or crashes
A new patch may be incompatible with a mod. Move the mods in the addons folder somewhere else and launch the game; then put the mods back one by one to find the culprit, and wait for its updated version on GameBanana.
Removing mods
Empty the addons folder or delete the line in gameinfo.gi. Verifying the game files in Steam restores everything to the original state.
To stay safe
Only download mods that contain a .vpk; don’t open packages with an .exe or scripts. For your crosshair, use the game’s own settings instead of a mod: crosshair code generator.
